What Is a Time Zone Converter?
A time zone converter is a tool that translates a specific date and time from one region of the world (a "source" time zone) into the equivalent local time in one or more other regions. It automatically accounts for UTC offsets and Daylight Saving Time (DST), so you always see the correct local time — no mental math required.
Our converter uses the industry‑standard IANA Time Zone Database (via the Intl API) to handle all 50+ time zones, fractional offsets like UTC+5:30 (India) or UTC+5:45 (Nepal), and DST transitions in real time.
📅
Schedule International Meetings
Find a time that works for participants in New York, London, and Tokyo simultaneously — without accidentally scheduling at 3 AM for someone.
✈️
Plan International Travel
Know exactly what time you'll land in your destination city, how long your layover is in local time, and when to take medication during long-haul flights.
💼
Coordinate Remote Teams
Manage distributed teams across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Determine overlap hours for synchronous communication windows.
📺
Watch Live Events
Convert broadcast times for sporting events, product launches, or conferences to your local time so you never miss a livestream.
💸
Track Global Market Hours
Know when NYSE, London Stock Exchange, Tokyo Stock Exchange, and crypto markets are open in your local time zone.
🛒
Online Shopping Deadlines
Confirm flash sale start times, Black Friday deal countdowns, and auction end times that are listed in Pacific or Eastern time.
How to Use This Tool
1
Pick a Date and Time
Use the datetime picker to enter the date and time you want to convert. Click the "Now" button to instantly populate the current date and time.
2
Select Your Source Time Zone
Choose the time zone that your entered date/time belongs to. The tool auto-detects your browser's local time zone as the default.
3
Add Target Time Zones
Search for a city or region in the search box, select it from the dropdown, and click "+ Add". Use the Quick Add buttons for instant access to the world's most popular cities.
4
Read the Converted Times
Each target zone shows the equivalent local time, date, weekday, UTC offset, and timezone abbreviation. Yellow +1 day / −1 day badges warn you when times cross midnight.
5
Compare in the Offset Table
Scroll down to the UTC Offset Comparison table for a side-by-side view of all zones with offsets, DST status, and time differences at a glance.
How Time Zone Conversion Works
All time zone arithmetic revolves around UTC as the universal reference point.
Step 1 — Local → UTC
UTC = Local Time − UTC Offset
The source local time is converted to UTC by subtracting the source zone's UTC offset. For example, 3:00 PM in New York (UTC−4 during EDT) → 3:00 PM − (−4h) = 19:00 UTC.
Step 2 — UTC → Target Local
Target Local = UTC + Target Offset
The UTC time is converted to each target zone by adding that zone's offset. 19:00 UTC → London (UTC+1 BST) = 20:00 · Tokyo (UTC+9 JST) = 04:00 next day.
DST Detection
DST = Jan offset ≠ Jul offset AND current = max(Jan, Jul)
DST is detected by comparing the zone's UTC offset in January vs July. If they differ and the current offset equals the larger value, DST is active.
Fractional Offsets
Offset = ±HH:MM (e.g. +05:30, +05:45, +09:30)
Some time zones use 30 or 45‑minute offsets: India (UTC+5:30), Nepal (UTC+5:45), Iran (UTC+3:30), Australia/Adelaide (UTC+9:30). These are handled precisely by our Intl API integration.
