Social Security Calculator
Estimate a simplified Social Security retirement benefit using average annual earnings, years worked, claiming age, full retirement age, and an optional COLA assumption.
Estimate potential estate-tax exposure using gross estate value, deductions, lifetime taxable gifts, the remaining exemption, and an optional flat state estate-tax rate.
Use this free estate tax calculator to estimate potential estate-tax exposure after deductions, lifetime taxable gifts, and the exemption amount are applied. It is useful for quick planning when you want to compare gross estate value against what heirs may actually receive. For broader wealth-planning context, compare it with the Net Worth Calculator, review future asset growth with the Future Value Calculator, or explore more money tools in Financial Calculators.
The estate still clears a sizable amount for heirs, but part of the balance remains exposed. Small changes to deductions, gifting history, or exemption assumptions can move this result.
An estate tax calculator is a planning tool that estimates how much of an estate may remain exposed to tax after debts, expenses, and common deductions are applied. Instead of looking only at the gross estate value, it helps you focus on the amount that may actually be left to transfer to heirs.
That makes it useful when you are comparing gifting strategies, checking how much exemption may still be available, or estimating whether a state-level estate tax could materially change the outcome. For a broader balance-sheet view, compare this with the Net Worth Calculator and the Finance Calculator.
First, the calculator subtracts debts, administration expenses, marital deductions, and charitable deductions from the gross estate to estimate the adjusted estate. It then compares that adjusted estate with the exemption that may still remain after prior taxable lifetime gifts are considered.
Second, it applies a simplified 40% federal rate to the portion that remains above the available exemption, then adds an optional flat state estate-tax estimate if you want a quick local planning layer. If you want to compare how a future estate may grow before transfer, continue into the Future Value Calculator or the Present Value Calculator.
This example uses the default values already loaded into the calculator, so it is useful for quick QA and for understanding how deductions and prior gifts affect exemption usage.
In this example, a gross estate of $18,000,000.00 is reduced to an adjusted estate of $17,050,000.00 after deductions. Because part of the exemption has already been used by lifetime gifts, the remaining exemption falls to $12,990,000.00. That leaves a federal taxable estate of $4,060,000.00 and a total modeled tax bill of $2,647,000.00.
